Aim
To consider the use of calcium silicate materials in endodontics and to provide hands-on training on the selection and use of commercially available products
Objectives
The speakers will:
- Describe the setting reaction and biological basis for the use of calcium silicate materials in endodontics
- Outline clinical scenarios where calcium silicate materials may be beneficial to use.
- Demonstrate the use of a selection of calcium silicate products on simulated clinical scenarios using 3D printed teeth, specifically evaluating their use as regular root filling material, in the management of open or wide apices and perforations and their use in internal resorption defects
- Appraise the use of these materials in microsurgical endodontics specifically as root end filling, perforation and external cervical resorption repair material
Learning outcomes
By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:
- Explain the biological benefits of using calcium silicate materials in endodontics
- Devise a decision-making strategy for the selection and use of calcium silicate materials
- Using 3D printed teeth, appraise the use and handling of various calcium silicate materials in different clinical scenarios
- Appraise the use of calcium silicate materials in microsurgical endodontics
