Background

In order to satisfy the accreditation process, the course has been restructured and there have been a number of additional assessment tools that are necessary for learners to obtain Diploma level status.

Amongst numerous other modifications, the restructure includes the following mandatory components:

  1. Pre-course interviews
  2. Amended course reading
  3. Documented observational assessment during the course
  4. Post-course tests
  5. Documented post-course reflection
  6. Video case presentation during the course
  7. Submission of a portfolio of evidence comprising of the reflective diary and 10 short clinical case summaries in a log book.

Given the work that you put in during your course, we felt it only right and proper to offer those who have attended the course recently, the opportunity to do additional work, and if successful, be awarded the Diploma.

Objective criteria required

On reviewing the additional requirements for our learners who completed the programme prior to accreditation, we have determined that the following assessments would be needed for our pre- accreditation learners to be considered for the award of a Diploma:

  1.  Submit a satisfactory reflective portfolio of evidence of learning and a clinical portfolio of 10 clinical cases you have completed (with appropriate documentation) start to finish.
  2. Attend an assessment day to include a case and endodontic based viva.

If the required standard is met for both components, you will be awarded the EndoArt Diploma in Endodontics (Level 7 accreditation).

We must ensure we have strong educational validity in order to award you a Diploma and therefore this can only be awarded if the necessary criteria have been met to the required standard.

Below are the details of the additional requirements:

1. Portfolio of evidence: Reflective diary and case logs

You will need to submit the following:

  1. A portfolio of evidence containing reflection of each module of the course you attended (Units 1-10). Templates will be provided for this.
  2. A clinical portfolio of 10 endodontic cases which you have completed start to finish which must include reflective discussion for each case.

Both components will be formally assessed and if the required standard is met, you will be invited to attend an assessment day.

The fee for reflective diary and case log submission is £600.

Please note:

  •  The fee is non-refundable and does not guarantee invitation to the assessment day.
  • If the required standard for either the portfolio of evidence or the case logs is not met, you will be given feedback and up to 2 further chances to resubmit your evidence at no extra charge
  • If unsuccessful at your 3rd attempt, you will not be invited to an assessment day.
  • A further submission fee of £600 would be required in order to make further submissions.
  •  This process must be completed within 5 years of your start date on the EndoArt programme (this will mean you must notify us of your intention at least 6 months prior to this date). If you are unsuccessful and there are less than 6 months until the cut off date you will not be able to reapply.

2. Assessment day (which will require your attendance although this may comprise of online assessment)

The day will comprise of 3 components:

  1. Written test
  2. An interview
  3. A clinical case presentation of a case that you have treated from start to finish. Your presentation will be video recorded to allow external validation and audit.

The fee for the assessment day is £900

Please note:

  • The fee is non-refundable and does not guarantee your Diploma unless the required standard is met
  • If the required standard is not met for any of the components, you will be given feedback and up to a further 2 attempts on subsequent assessment days, at no extra charge.
  • Only the components in which the standard is not met will need to be repeated
  • If unsuccessful at your 3rd attempt, a further fee of £900 would be required in order to make further submissions.
  • This process must be completed within 5 years of your start date on the EndoArt programme (this will mean you must notify us of your intention at least 6 months prior to this date). If you are unsuccessful and there are less than 6 months until the cut off date you will not be able to reapply.

Successful completion of all components

If the required standard is met in all components, you will be awarded the EndoArt Postgraduate Diploma in Endodontics (level 7 accreditation). The total cost of this process will be £1500.

The process of accrediting prior learning is complex and we must satisfy the requirements to ensure the necessary criteria have been met. The process is subject to external validation by EduQual and therefore we are unable to make any award unless these requirements have been met. As a result, we are unable to make any amendments to the above requirements.

Evidence produced from your previous experience/course must be current. This means it must meet prevailing standards in dentistry and it must also be authentic, which means it must be directly attributable to you. Any gaps identified between the work/experience you have completed and the requirements of our Postgraduate Diploma in Endodontics (EduQual Level 7) must be met through a programme agreed between yourself and EndoArt.

All learners wishing to achieve the PGD through RPL must be aware that, in addition to the matching of evidence from previous learning to the PGD course standards, they will be required to complete an absolute minimum of one assignment to be agreed between EndoArt and the learner.

We are happy to answer any concerns or questions you might have prior to application for accreditation or any submissions.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes,

Shashi and Bhavin
